As the June temperatures heat up, many offices allow employees to dress-down for the summer. After all, nobody wants to wear a suit in ninety-degree weather. However, I was raised with the notion to “Dress for the job you want”… aka look professional and put together, despite what other employees are wearing.
Here are my three rules for your summer work wardrobe:
1. If the office allows you to wear jeans, make sure they are a dark wash. Light wash or faded jeans are unprofessional and should be saved for the weekend. Also, pair your jeans with heels or cute wedges.
2. If the temperature is so hot that you need to wear your hair up to prevent it from sticking to the back of your neck, be sure that your outfit is professional enough to offset the casual hair-do.
3. Never wear flip flops… Sandals are ok but if they are made of rubber, keep them at home.
Check out some of these items to help you compile a summer work wardrobe for the office that will keep you comfortable in the scorching heat, yet professional in the office.

We’ve all been there… That beautiful, crisp spring day when all you want is to pull your white jeans out of the back of your closet. You pause, as you hear “But it’s not Memorial Day yet” echoing in the back of your head. If my mom taught me anything about fashion, it’s to never wear white before that fateful Monday at the end of May. What’s a girl to do?
White jeans before Memorial Day: Do or Don’t?
For me, white jeans are a close second to sundresses as my favorite wardrobe essential for spring and summer. I follow the weatherman, not the calendar, to tell me when I can wear white. The unspoken rule of avoiding white before Memorial Day seems out of date. It’s something my mother followed growing up, but our generation is breaking the chain.
Check out my favorite white jeans and shoe combinations for the upcoming season! From loafers, to colored flats, or brown wedges, white jeans can take you to any spring or summer occasion.
